Tate's page

Had Tate's 1 year pics taken.  Why are one's own kids always the cutest in the world?

Tracey surprised me by taking the boys to have their portrait taken for Father's Day.  Best present ever!

Tracey took Tate to Fall Creek, Wisconsin so her parents could see their new grandson.  While there, they drove down to Sparta, WI to visit Irma, Tate's great grandmother who turned 100 last August.

March 16, 2004:

Time for some recent pics.  Tate was fussy most of his first 2 months, getting used to being in a physical form.  He didn't like pooping.  You know, everything felt weird.  Then, at 3 months, he started smiling.  He really likes his mom.  Now, he only cries when he wants something.

Tracey finally got a digital camera is really getting some good shots....

Aunt Pat came to town to see Tate.  Here, Tate can't tell the difference between Pat and his mom.  Pat watched Tate while Tracey and I went to the stunning art deco Hotel Pattee for our first anniversary.  Man, a year is a long time to be married.

Tate's second trip was to Omaha.  We went to the Henry Doorly Zoo, then more of Tracey's friends came to our hotel with their kids and we all swam, ate pizza and hang out.

Tate's first trip was to Chicago.  We went to see Tracey's friends, Rebekah and Scott.  They had extensively remodeled their home and it was just sensational.  Kelly, John and Julie joined us and I had a great time checking Tracey's life story against what her college friends remembered about her.

December 7, 2003

Well, Tracey's due date was Dec 27, so we were surprised when her water broke Wednesday morning at 5 am, 12/3.  We got to the hospital at 7 am and they started inducing labor at 9 am.  She had a few painful contractions before they started pain medications.  Then, when they gave her the epidural, she wasn't even aware of the contractions and got to 10 cm very quickly.  45 minutes of pushing and we had a beautiful baby boy!  Even Tracey said it was an easy delivery.

About the 4 names

Tracey liked the name Tate because she hadn't heard it used yet.  Ryals was my dad's middle name and his mother's maiden name.  We chose two middle names because Quinn has two also (Quinn Kerby Bradwell Severs).  We chose two middle names for Quinn because we wanted to honor an ancestor from both sides of his family.

There's a story about my gggg grandfather, David R Kerby (1795-1882).  When he was 19, his first child was born.  He named him Ewing Jefferson Jackson Rowland Tarrant Kerby because he thought he might not have anymore children and he wanted to honor as many people as possible.  His 26th child was born when he was 71.  Quinn and I can name all 26.  Some elder cousins of mine remember that Ewing's playmates made up a chant that went "Ewing Jefferson Jackson that tormenting Kerby".
